I don't believe in a god, i believe that we are gods. and that we, once we transcend our bodies, could bend reality and conquer space and time with our minds. and that their exist a realm where we go in form of Light(soul), other dimensions. my speculation after that point is henceforth drawn short, because i can not think of a reason for this, without developing a reason for the beginning. We can only speculate if there is a higher being or not. If there is, then it would appear that he is a lawmaker - his laws dictate the order of the universe, with no bias towards any group or object. This would also mean that, when we design our own fantasies and universes, we become gods ourselves.

There is only one paradox to that concept: what happens to the created universe if its creator dies - does it live on separately, or does it die with him?

Well, mon amie, i can imagine that if said creator does hypothetically perish somehow, through some hilarious and ironic means(jk), I would assume this assumed universe would then collapse or return to the form prior to the existence of this creator,and if we are to evolve into this higher being someone would probably take up the mantle. The reason you are face palming about now...is because anyone can speculate, I guess that is why George Lucas, Stephan King and the majority of Republicans are wealthy, quite the imagination. I digress, it would be amazing if the universe's creator does die and someone else becomes the legacy of said creator and remodels the universe with their own design and will.
